OR7G1

Description

The OR7G1 (olfactory receptor family 7 subfamily G member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

The OR7G1 gene encodes a protein called Olfactory receptor 7G1. This protein plays a crucial role in our sense of smell by interacting with odorant molecules in the nose. These interactions trigger a neuronal response, leading to the perception of a smell. OR7G1 is a member of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), which are characterized by a seven-transmembrane domain structure. This structure is shared with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and the nomenclature used for these genes and proteins is distinct from other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR7G1 is also known as OR19-15, OR19-8, OR7G1P.
