OR7A5

Description

The OR7A5 (olfactory receptor family 7 subfamily A member 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

The OR7A5 gene encodes a protein called olfactory receptor 7A5. Olfactory receptors are proteins in the nose that interact with odor molecules to initiate a neuronal response that leads to the perception of smell. They belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and are encoded by single-exon genes. These receptors share a common structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, with a 7-transmembrane domain structure. They are responsible for recognizing and transducing odorant signals through G protein-mediated pathways. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The nomenclature for these genes and proteins is independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR7A5 is also known as HTPCR2.
