OR5T1

Description

The OR5T1 (olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily T member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

The OR5T1 gene encodes a protein called Olfactory receptor 5T1, which plays a crucial role in our sense of smell. It belongs to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) responsible for detecting and transmitting odorant signals. These receptors have a distinctive 7-transmembrane domain structure, common to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. The OR5T1 gene is part of the largest gene family in the human genome, responsible for our diverse ability to perceive and distinguish smells.

This protein is involved in the sense of smell, interacting with odor molecules in the nose to trigger a neuronal response.

OR5T1 is also known as OR11-179, OR5T1P.
