OR5M11

Description

The OR5M11 (olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily M member 11) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

The OR5M11 gene codes for a protein called olfactory receptor 5M11, which is involved in our sense of smell. This protein belongs to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that detect odorant molecules in the nose. When an odorant binds to OR5M11, it triggers a chain of events that ultimately leads to the perception of a smell. The OR5M11 gene is part of a massive family of genes responsible for our ability to detect a wide range of smells.

A receptor for odorant molecules, involved in the process of smell detection.

OR5M11 is also known as OR11-199.
