OR5D13
Description
The OR5D13 (olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily D member 13) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.
The OR5D13 gene encodes a protein called olfactory receptor 5D13, which plays a role in the sense of smell in humans. This protein belongs to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), which are responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nose. When an odorant molecule binds to an olfactory receptor, it triggers a neuronal response that ultimately leads to the perception of a smell. The olfactory receptor gene family is one of the largest in the human genome, with each gene encoding a unique receptor protein. The nomenclature for olfactory receptor genes and proteins is independent of other organisms.
