OR5B2

Description

The OR5B2 (olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily B member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

Olfactory receptor 5B2 is a protein encoded by the OR5B2 gene in humans. It plays a role in smell perception by interacting with odorant molecules in the nose, initiating a neuronal response. This protein belongs to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and shares a 7-transmembrane domain structure with other neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. It is responsible for recognizing and transducing odorant signals through G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the genome, and the nomenclature for this gene and protein is independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR5B2 is also known as OR11-240, OST073.
