OR5B17

Description

The OR5B17 (olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily B member 17) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

Olfactory receptor 5B17 is a protein in humans encoded by the OR5B17 gene. It interacts with odorant molecules in the nose to trigger the perception of smell. This receptor belongs to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) arising from single coding-exon genes. Like many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, olfactory receptors have a 7-transmembrane domain structure and are responsible for recognizing and transducing odorant signals via G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The naming convention used for olfactory receptor genes and proteins is unique to humans.

Odorant receptor.

OR5B17 is also known as OR11-237, OR5B20P.
