OR5AN1

Description

The OR5AN1 (olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily AN member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

Olfactory receptor 5AN1 is a protein in humans encoded by the OR5AN1 gene. It interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, initiating a neuronal response leading to the perception of smell. Olfactory receptors belong to the large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), arising from single coding-exon genes. They share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors and are responsible for recognizing and transducing odorant signals via G protein-mediated mechanisms. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the genome, and the nomenclature for this organism is independent of others.

Ligands for this receptor include civetone and muscone.

OR5AN1 is also known as OR11-244.
