OR56A4
Description
The OR56A4 (olfactory receptor family 56 subfamily A member 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.
Olfactory receptor 56A4 is a protein encoded by the OR56A4 gene in humans. It's involved in smelling by interacting with odorant molecules in the nose, initiating a neuronal response that leads to smell perception. Olfactory receptors are a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) arising from single coding-exon genes. They share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, responsible for recognizing odorant signals and transducing them via G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the genome, with its own unique nomenclature.
Decanal and Undecanal are known ligands for OR56A4.
