OR52J3

Description

The OR52J3 (olfactory receptor family 52 subfamily J member 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

The OR52J3 gene in humans encodes the olfactory receptor 52J3 protein. This protein interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, initiating a neuronal response that leads to the perception of smell. Olfactory receptors are part of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), arising from single coding-exon genes. They share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, responsible for odorant signal recognition and G protein-mediated transduction. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The nomenclature used for these genes and proteins is independent of other organisms.

This protein acts as an odorant receptor, playing a role in detecting and recognizing smells.

OR52J3 is also known as OR11-32.
