OR51A7

Description

The OR51A7 (olfactory receptor family 51 subfamily A member 7) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

Olfactory receptor 51A7 is a protein encoded by the OR51A7 gene in humans. It plays a role in the sense of smell by interacting with odorant molecules in the nose. This interaction initiates a neuronal response, leading to the perception of a smell. Olfactory receptors belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. These receptors are responsible for recognizing odorants and transducing signals through G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and its nomenclature is independent of other organisms. As of 2015, no specific odorants have been identified that bind to OR51A7.

OR51A7 is also known as OR11-27.
