OR4K13

Description

The OR4K13 (olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily K member 13) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

The OR4K13 gene encodes a protein called olfactory receptor 4K13. Olfactory receptors are proteins responsible for detecting smells. They interact with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that leads to smell perception. Olfactory receptors belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), which are characterized by a 7-transmembrane domain structure. This structure is shared with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The nomenclature used for olfactory receptor genes and proteins is specific to this organism.

Odorant receptor.

OR4K13 is also known as OR14-27.
