OR2M2

Description

The OR2M2 (olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily M member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

The OR2M2 gene encodes a protein, Olfactory receptor 2M2, that plays a role in smell perception in humans. This protein, like other olfactory receptors, interacts with odorant molecules within the nose, triggering a neuronal response that results in the sensation of smell. Olfactory receptors are members of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), characterized by their seven-transmembrane domain structure. They share similarities with other receptors that bind neurotransmitters and hormones. These receptors are responsible for recognizing and transducing odorant signals via G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The naming system for these genes and proteins is independent of other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR2M2 is also known as OR2M2Q, OST423.
