OR2L8

Description

The OR2L8 (olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily L member 8) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

The OR2L8 gene encodes a protein called olfactory receptor 2L8. This protein is involved in smelling by interacting with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a signal that leads to the perception of a smell. Olfactory receptors belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and share a similar structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. The OR2L8 gene, like other olfactory receptor genes, is a single coding-exon gene. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and the naming system used for olfactory receptors in humans is independent of other organisms.
