OR2F1

Description

The OR2F1 (olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily F member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

The OR2F1 gene encodes for the olfactory receptor 2F1 protein in humans. This protein interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that results in the perception of smell. Olfactory receptors belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. They play a crucial role in recognizing and transducing odorant signals via G protein-mediated pathways. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and its nomenclature is independent of other organisms.
