OR2AE1

Description

The OR2AE1 (olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily AE member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

The OR2AE1 gene produces a protein called olfactory receptor 2AE1. This protein plays a vital role in our sense of smell. It sits in the nose and interacts with odorant molecules, initiating a signal that allows us to perceive smells. OR2AE1 belongs to a large group of proteins called G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that are known for their 7-transmembrane structure. This structure helps them bind to odorant molecules and transmit signals within the cell. The olfactory receptor gene family, including OR2AE1, is the largest family of genes in our genome.

This protein acts as an odorant receptor, responsible for detecting and responding to specific scents.

OR2AE1 is also known as OR2AE2.
