OR10G3

Description

The OR10G3 (olfactory receptor family 10 subfamily G member 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

The OR10G3 gene encodes for the Olfactory receptor 10G3 protein. This protein plays a crucial role in our sense of smell. It interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that allows us to perceive smells. Olfactory receptors belong to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that are encoded by single coding-exon genes. These receptors share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. They are responsible for recognizing and transducing odorant signals through G protein-mediated pathways. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The naming system for olfactory receptors is independent from other organisms.

OR10G3 is also known as OR14-40.
