OR10A7

Description

The OR10A7 (olfactory receptor family 10 subfamily A member 7) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

The OR10A7 gene encodes a protein known as olfactory receptor 10A7. This protein interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, initiating a neuronal response that leads to the perception of smell. OR10A7 is part of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that share a 7-transmembrane domain structure, similar to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. These receptors are responsible for recognizing and transmitting odorant signals through G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. The nomenclature for olfactory receptor genes and proteins is unique to humans and does not correspond to other organisms.

Odorant receptor.

OR10A7 is also known as OR12-6.
