OR10A6

Description

The OR10A6 (olfactory receptor family 10 subfamily A member 6 (gene/pseudogene)) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

The OR10A6 gene encodes a protein called olfactory receptor 10A6, which is involved in the sense of smell. Olfactory receptors, including OR10A6, bind to odorant molecules in the nose, triggering a neuronal response that allows us to perceive smells. OR10A6 is a member of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), which are characterized by their seven transmembrane domains. These receptors are responsible for recognizing and transmitting odorant signals through the G-protein pathway. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and the nomenclature used for these genes and proteins is unique to humans.

Odorant receptor.

OR10A6 is also known as OR11-96.
