OR10A2

Description

The OR10A2 (olfactory receptor family 10 subfamily A member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

Olfactory receptor family 10 subfamily A member 2 (OR10A2) is a protein that, in humans, is encoded by the OR10A2 gene. OR10A2 is part of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) responsible for detecting odor molecules in the nose. These receptors, upon interaction with odorants, initiate a neuronal response leading to the perception of smell. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. OR10A2 has been proposed as a candidate gene for the genetic basis of cilantro preference, along with its nearby gene OR6A2 on chromosome 11.

Odorant receptor.

OR10A2 is also known as OR10A2P, OR11-82, OR11-86, OST363.
