OLIG1

Description

The OLIG1 (oligodendrocyte transcription factor 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

Oligodendrocyte transcription factor 1 is a protein encoded by the OLIG1 gene in humans. It is involved in the development of oligodendrocytes, which are responsible for producing myelin, the fatty substance that insulates nerve fibers in the brain and spinal cord. OLIG1 is a transcription factor, meaning that it regulates the expression of other genes. It is also known to interact with other transcription factors, such as OLIG2, to control the development of the nervous system.

OLIG1 is also known as BHLHB6, BHLHE21.
