NUP54

Description

The NUP54 (nucleoporin 54) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

NUP54 is a human gene that encodes the protein nucleoporin 54. The nuclear envelope, a double-layered membrane surrounding the nucleus, is essential for separating the nucleus from the cytoplasm in eukaryotic cells. This envelope contains nuclear pores, which are large protein complexes that regulate the movement of macromolecules between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. These complexes are composed of numerous proteins, many belonging to the nucleoporin family. NUP54 is one such nucleoporin, belonging to a subset containing FG repeats.

NUP54 is a component of the nuclear pore complex, which is essential for transporting molecules across the nuclear membrane.

NUP54 is also known as DYT37.
