NUP43

Description

The NUP43 (nucleoporin 43) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

NUP43 is a protein encoded by the NUP43 gene in humans. It is a component of the Nup107-160 subcomplex, which is involved in the bidirectional transport of macromolecules between the cytoplasm and the nucleus through nuclear pore complexes (NPCs) embedded in the nuclear envelope. NPCs are essential for the proper functioning of the cell. NUP43 has a WD40 repeat domain structure. High expression of NUP43 in breast cancer is associated with poor overall survival. In chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), reduced levels of miRNA-409-5p lead to increased expression of NUP43, which in turn promotes cell proliferation, cell cycle progression, and resistance to imatinib treatment. Some variants of NUP43 have been linked to the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD), while NUP43 expression has been associated with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

NUP43 is a component of the Nup107-160 subcomplex, which is essential for the assembly of a functional nuclear pore complex (NPC). This subcomplex also plays a crucial role in proper kinetochore microtubule attachment, ensuring normal mitotic progression and accurate chromosome segregation during cell division.

NUP43 is also known as bA350J20.1, p42.
