Nucleobindin-1 (NUCB1), also known as calnuc, is a protein encoded by the NUCB1 gene in humans. It consists of 461 amino acids and has an isoelectric point of 4.9. NUCB1 contains several key regions and domains, including a signal peptide and a leucine-zipper, which may be responsible for its dimerization.
NUCB1 is a major calcium-binding protein located in the Golgi apparatus, potentially playing a role in calcium homeostasis. It acts as a non-receptor guanine nucleotide exchange factor, binding to and activating alpha subunits of G proteins. This interaction is supported by experimental evidence from UniProtKB.
