NSL1

Description

The NSL1 (NSL1 component of MIS12 kinetochore complex) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

The NSL1 gene encodes a protein with two coiled-coil domains that localizes to kinetochores, structures essential for chromosome movement during cell division. The protein is part of a complex that includes two chromodomain-containing proteins and a component of the outer kinetochore plate. This complex is thought to link centromeric heterochromatin with the outer kinetochore structure. The gene produces multiple transcript variants encoding different protein isoforms. NSL1 has been shown to interact with MIS12 and DSN1.

The MIS12 complex is essential for proper chromosome alignment and segregation during cell division. It plays a key role in the formation of the kinetochore, which connects chromosomes to microtubules.

NSL1 is also known as C1orf48, DC8, MIS14.
