NSF

Description

The NSF (N-ethylmaleimide sensitive factor, vesicle fusing ATPase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

NSF may stand for: N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive fusion protein, Vesicular-fusion protein NSF

NSF is essential for vesicle-mediated transport, specifically catalyzing the fusion of transport vesicles within the Golgi cisternae. It plays a crucial role in moving cargo from the endoplasmic reticulum to the Golgi stack. NSF acts as a fusion protein, facilitating the delivery of cargo proteins to all compartments of the Golgi stack regardless of the vesicle's origin. Additionally, its interaction with the AMPAR subunit GRIA2 influences GRIA2 membrane cycling.

NSF is also known as DEE96, SEC18, SKD2.
