NPTX1
Description
The NPTX1 (neuronal pentraxin 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.
Neuronal pentraxin-1 (NP1) is a protein encoded by the NPTX1 gene in humans. It belongs to the neuronal pentraxin gene family and shares similarities with the rat NP1 gene, which produces a binding protein for the snake venom toxin taipoxin. Human NPTX1 mRNA is exclusively found in the nervous system.
NP1 might play a role in removing synaptic components during synapse restructuring, as well as in gathering AMPA glutamate receptors at a specific type of excitatory synapse.
NPTX1 is also known as NP1, SCA50.
