NOP2

Description

The NOP2 (NOP2 nucleolar protein) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

NOP2 plays a role in the assembly of the large ribosomal subunit. It is an S-adenosyl-L-methionine-dependent methyltransferase that specifically methylates the C(5) position of cytosine 4447 in 28S rRNA. It may also play a role in regulating the cell cycle and the increased nucleolar activity associated with cell proliferation.

NOP2 is also known as NOL1, NOP120, NSUN1, p120.
