NKIRAS2

Description

The NKIRAS2 (NFKB inhibitor interacting Ras like 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

NKIRAS2 (NF-κB inhibitor interacting Ras-like 2) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the NKIRAS2 gene.

NKIRAS2 is a unique Ras-like protein that significantly controls NF-κB activity. It achieves this by hindering the breakdown of NFKBIB, a crucial inhibitor of NF-κB, in response to various signals. This explains why NFKBIB is more resistant to degradation compared to other NF-κB inhibitors. NKIRAS2 potentially achieves this by blocking NFKBIB phosphorylation and preventing the nuclear translocation of p65/RELA, a subunit of NF-κB. While it's uncertain whether NKIRAS2 functions as a GTPase, both its GTP-bound and GDP-bound forms have been shown to inhibit NFKBIB phosphorylation.

NKIRAS2 is also known as KBRAS2, kappaB-Ras2.
