NKIRAS1

Description

The NKIRAS1 (NFKB inhibitor interacting Ras like 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

NKIRAS1, also known as I-kappa-B-interacting Ras-like protein 1, is an atypical Ras-like protein that acts as a potent regulator of NF-kappa-B activity. It prevents the degradation of NF-kappa-B inhibitor beta (NFKBIB) by most signals, which explains why NFKBIB is more resistant to degradation. NKIRAS1 may act by blocking phosphorylation of NFKBIB and mediating cytoplasmic retention of p65/RELA NF-kappa-B subunit. It is unclear whether NKIRAS1 acts as a GTPase. Both GTP- and GDP-bound forms block phosphorylation of NFKBIB.

NKIRAS1 is also known as KBRAS1, kappaB-Ras1.
