NIPAL1
Description
The NIPAL1 (NIPA like domain containing 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.
NIPAL1 is a magnesium transporter, primarily responsible for moving Mg(2+) ions across cell membranes. It can also transport other divalent cations, including Fe(2+), Sr(2+), Ba(2+), Mn(2+), Cu(2+), and Co(2+), but its efficiency for these ions is significantly lower compared to Mg(2+).
NIPAL1 is also known as NIPA3, NPAL1, SLC57A3.
Associated Diseases

- X-linked immunodeficiency with magnesium defect, Epstein-Barr virus infection and neoplasia
- inborn error of immunity
