NELL1
Description
The NELL1 (neural EGFL like 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.
NELL1, also known as NEL-like protein 1 (NELL1) or Nel-related protein 1 (NRP1), is a protein encoded by the NELL1 gene in humans. It is a cytoplasmic protein containing epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like repeats. NELL1 is believed to play a role in regulating cell growth and differentiation. Research suggests that NELL1, similar to its counterpart in rodents, could be involved in craniosynostosis. While an alternative splice variant has been documented, its full-length sequence is yet to be determined. UCLA researchers have shown that intravenous administration of NELL1 can stimulate significant bone formation by activating the regenerative potential of stem cells.
NELL1 is also known as IDH3GL, NRP1.
