NEDD1
Description
The NEDD1 (NEDD1 gamma-tubulin ring complex targeting factor) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.
NEDD1, also known as Neural precursor cell expressed, developmentally down-regulated 1, is a human gene that encodes the protein NEDD1. NEDD1 is localized in the centrosome and plays a role in mitosis through its interaction with γ-tubulin. The amino-terminal WD40 repeats are responsible for NEDD1 localization in the centrosome, while the carboxy-terminal amino acids are needed for interactions with γ-tubulin. Depletion of NEDD1 leads to impaired centrosome and chromatin microtubule assembly, resulting in the failure of microtubule nucleation and preventing proper spindle formation.
NEDD1 is required for mitotic progression and promotes the nucleation of microtubules from the spindle.
NEDD1 is also known as GCP-WD, TUBGCP7.
