NECAB3

Description

The NECAB3 (N-terminal EF-hand calcium binding protein 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 20.

NECAB3 is a protein encoded by the NECAB3 gene in humans. It interacts with APBA2, preventing its association with amyloid precursor protein and blocking APBA2's suppression of beta-amyloid production. NECAB3 and APBA2 may regulate amyloid precursor protein metabolism and beta-amyloid generation. The NECAB3 gene has at least 13 exons and generates at least 2 transcript variants through alternative splicing.

NECAB3 inhibits the interaction of APBA2 with amyloid-beta precursor protein (APP), promoting the formation of amyloid-beta. It can enhance the activity of HIF1A, leading to increased glycolysis under normal oxygen conditions. This function relies on its ABM domain and may involve stabilizing the interaction between HIF1AN and APBA3.

NECAB3 is also known as APBA2BP, EFCBP3, NIP1, STIP3, SYTIP2, XB51, dJ63M2.4, dJ63M2.5.
