NDUFS5
Description
The NDUFS5 (NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase subunit S5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.
NDUFS5 is a gene that encodes NADH dehydrogenase [ubiquinone] iron-sulfur protein 5, an enzyme found in humans.
NDUFS5 is a component of Complex I, a critical part of the mitochondrial respiratory chain. Complex I transfers electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain, with ubiquinone likely being the primary electron acceptor. While NDUFS5 is considered an accessory subunit, it is not believed to directly participate in catalysis.
NDUFS5 is also known as CI-15k, CI15K.
