NDUFB5

Description

The NDUFB5 (NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase subunit B5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

NDUFB5, encoded by the NDUFB5 gene on chromosome 3, produces a 21.7 kDa protein that is a subunit of NADH dehydrogenase (ubiquinone), the largest of the five respiratory chain complexes located in the mitochondrial inner membrane. The NDUFB5 gene spans 19,713 base pairs and encodes a protein with a hydrophobic transmembrane domain and a hydrophilic domain. The hydrophobic domain anchors the protein to the inner mitochondrial membrane, while the hydrophilic domain interacts with other subunits of Complex I. Although NDUFB5 is a component of Complex I, it is not believed to be directly involved in the catalytic transfer of electrons from NADH to ubiquinone.

NDUFB5 is also known as CISGDH, SGDH.
