NCLN

Description

The NCLN (nicalin) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

Nicalin is a protein that in humans is encoded by the NCLN gene.

NCLN, also known as Nicalin, is part of the multi-pass translocon (MPT) complex. The MPT complex aids in inserting multi-pass membrane proteins into the cell's lipid bilayer. It takes over after the SEC61 complex, which inserts the initial transmembrane segments of proteins. The MPT complex then blocks the SEC61 complex's lateral gate, allowing the insertion of subsequent transmembrane regions. NCLN may also play a role in regulating Nodal signaling, which is important for organizing axial structures during embryonic development. This regulation is thought to occur through NCLN's interaction with NOMO.

NCLN is also known as NET59.
