Description
The NAPSA (napsin A aspartic peptidase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.
Napsin-A is an aspartic proteinase, encoded by the NAPSA gene. It belongs to the pepsin family and is characterized by a pro-part, crucial for proper folding, targeting, and activation control. This gene is primarily expressed in the lungs and kidneys. Its translated product is predicted to be a fully functional, glycosylated precursor with an RGD motif and an additional 18 residues at its C-terminus. Detecting NAPSA gene expression helps distinguish adenocarcinomas from other lung cancer types.
May play a role in the processing of pneumocyte surfactant precursors.
