NANOS1

Description

The NANOS1 (nanos C2HC-type zinc finger 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 10.

NANOS1 is a protein encoded by the NANOS1 gene in humans. It is involved in the regulation of gene expression.

NANOS1 acts as a translational repressor, controlling the production of specific proteins by binding to their messenger RNA (mRNA) through a complex with PUM2. This binding occurs at the 3'-UTR region of the mRNA. NANOS1 can interfere with the adhesive properties of E-cadherin, a protein that helps cells stick together, potentially promoting cell invasion. Additionally, NANOS1 increases the production of MMP14, an enzyme that breaks down the extracellular matrix, further facilitating tumor cell invasion.

NANOS1 is also known as EC_Rep1a, NOS-1, NOS1, SPGF12, ZC2HC12A.
