Nalidixicacid

Description

Nalidixic acid is a first-generation quinolone antibiotic that is used to treat urinary tract infections (UTIs). It works by inhibiting the enzyme DNA gyrase, which is essential for bacterial DNA replication. Nalidixic acid is effective against a variety of gram-negative bacteria, including Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Proteus mirabilis. It is typically taken by mouth and is available as a generic medication. Nalidixic acid is generally well-tolerated, but side effects can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and headache. In rare cases, more serious side effects can occur, such as seizures, liver damage, and allergic reactions.
