NAF1

Description

The NAF1 (nuclear assembly factor 1 ribonucleoprotein) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

NAF1 is an RNA-binding protein that plays a crucial role in the maturation of box H/ACA snoRNPs, essential for ribosome biogenesis. During the assembly of the H/ACA snoRNPs complex, NAF1 associates with the complex but is replaced by NOLA1/GAR1 during maturation, leading to the formation of the mature H/ACA snoRNPs complex. It is believed that NAF1 competes with NOLA1/GAR1 for binding to DKC1/NOLA4.

NAF1 is also known as PFBMFT7.
