Naca: A Comprehensive Guide to Necrotizing Alveolitis in Childhood

Description

Necrotizing alveolitis in childhood (NACA) is a rare but life-threatening lung disease that primarily affects young children. It is characterized by severe inflammation and destruction of the alveoli, the tiny air sacs in the lungs that are responsible for gas exchange. NACA can lead to respiratory failure and death if not promptly diagnosed and treated.

Associated Diseases

NACA is often associated with immunodeficiency disorders, such as:

  • Severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID)
  • X-linked agammaglobulinemia
  • Chronic granulomatous disease

In some cases, NACA can also occur in children with other underlying medical conditions, such as:

  • Malnutrition
  • Prematurity
  • Trauma

Did you Know ?

According to a study published in the journal "Pediatrics," NACA accounts for approximately 1.5% of all cases of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), a chronic lung disease in premature infants.
