MYO9B is a gene that encodes the Myosin-IXb protein.
Myosin-IXb, also known as unconventional myosin-9b, is an actin-based motor protein that plays a role in intracellular movement. It binds actin with high affinity, both in the presence and absence of ATP, and its activity is inhibited by calcium ions. Myosin-IXb acts as a GTPase activator for RhoA, a protein involved in cell migration. This activity is regulated by the interaction of Myosin-IXb with Robo1, a receptor for the Slit2 signaling molecule. When Myosin-IXb interacts with Robo1, it reduces its ability to activate RhoA, leading to an increase in active, GTP-bound RhoA. This suggests that Myosin-IXb plays a role in regulating cell migration through its interactions with RhoA and Robo1.
