MYO7B

Description

The MYO7B (myosin VIIB) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

MYO7B is an unconventional myosin that functions as a molecular motor, using ATP to move along actin filaments. It is involved in the organization and length regulation of microvilli, crucial structures in epithelial cells that increase surface area for absorption. MYO7B plays a role in epithelial brush border differentiation through its association with the intermicrovillar adhesion complex (IMAC). IMAC is a protein complex that connects microvilli to the underlying actin cytoskeleton. MYO7B may also link IMAC to the actin core bundle of microvilli.
