MYL2

Description

The MYL2 gene provides instructions for making one of the proteins that make up the thin filaments of muscle fibers. These filaments interact with thicker filaments, which are made of myosin, to allow muscles to contract. MYL2 is specifically involved in slow-twitch muscle fibers, responsible for sustained, low-intensity activities. Variations in the MYL2 gene can affect muscle function and lead to various health issues.

Associated Diseases

Did you know?

MYL2 mutations are more prevalent in individuals with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a condition characterized by thickened heart muscle.
