MYEF2

Description

The MYEF2 (myelin expression factor 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

Myelin expression factor 2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the MYEF2 gene.

MYEF2 acts as a transcriptional repressor of the myelin basic protein gene (MBP). It binds to the proximal MB1 element (5'-TTGTCC-3') within the MBP promoter. PURA (Purine-rich element binding protein A) inhibits both MYEF2's binding to MB1 and its overall function.

MYEF2 is also known as HsT18564, MEF-2, MST156, MSTP156, myEF-2.
