MTRF1L

Description

The MTRF1L (mitochondrial translation release factor 1 like) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

Mitochondrial translational release factor 1-like is a protein encoded by the MTRF1L gene. Mitochondria use their own DNA (mtDNA) to encode 13 essential proteins for the respiratory chain, while all mitochondrial translation proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and imported from the cytoplasm. MTRF1L is a nuclear-encoded protein that functions as a releasing factor, recognizing termination codons and releasing mitochondrial ribosomes from the synthesized protein. This process is critical for the proper termination of protein synthesis within mitochondria.

MTRF1L is also known as HMRF1L, MRF1L, mtRF1a.
