MTIF2

Description

The MTIF2 (mitochondrial translational initiation factor 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

The MTIF2 gene encodes translation initiation factor IF-2, mitochondrial, a protein essential for the initiation of protein synthesis within mitochondria. This protein, analogous to prokaryotic IF-2, is a monomeric protein that promotes the binding of the initiator tRNA to the small ribosomal subunit in a GTP-dependent manner. It shares significant sequence similarity with yeast mitochondrial IF-2 and prokaryotic IF-2s, especially in the G domains. Two transcript variants have been identified for MTIF2, both encoding the same protein.

MTIF2 is also known as -.
