MT1HL1

Description

The MT1HL1 (metallothionein 1H like 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

MT1HL1, like other metallothioneins, contains a high abundance of cysteine residues. These residues readily bind to a variety of heavy metals, playing a crucial role in detoxification. The expression of MT1HL1 is controlled by both heavy metals and glucocorticoids, suggesting its involvement in cellular responses to environmental stress and hormone signaling.

MT1HL1 is also known as MT1P2.
