MRPS9

Description

The MRPS9 (mitochondrial ribosomal protein S9) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

MRPS9, also known as uS9m, is a protein encoded by the MRPS9 gene in humans. It is a mitochondrial ribosomal protein involved in protein synthesis within the mitochondrion. Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit. MRPS9 is a component of the 28S subunit. While mitochondrial ribosomes share similarities with prokaryotic ribosomes, they have a higher proportion of protein to rRNA and lack a 5S rRNA. The protein sequences of mitoribosomal proteins vary greatly across different species, making identification by sequence homology challenging.

MRPS9 is also known as MRP-S9, RPMS9, S9mt, uS9m.
